The influence of technology is largely shaped by institutions, and institutions are made up of humans. However, humans have bounded rationality. AI may further fragment the global economy in different ways by affecting the preferences of consumers, voters and policy makers.
Linguistic-Psychological Models
I apply advanced linguistic-psychological frameworks to analyze China's foreign and security policy, revealing insights into the motivations behind strategic choices.
International Collaboration
I engage with scholars and practitioners globally to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on AI's implications for trade and investment practices.
AI in the US
My research examines how U.S. trade and investment politics influence the international economy. In particular, I focus on the mechanisms of U.S. domestic politics—specifically the role of public opinion and policy decision-making circles in shaping regulatory risks, with an emphasis on the screening process for foreign direct investment (FDI). I plan to extend this analysis to other regions.
Psychological Insights
Trust is essential to economic transactions, and institutions exist to ensure the trust. Yet in the international relations literature, the psychological dimensions of trust—such as fiduciary trust—remain relatively understudied. My research applies these psychological elements to the study of international cooperation.
China's Policy Analysis
My master's dissertation was to understand the minds of China's policymakers in its foreign and security policies by analyzing political documents with a computer-assisted psycholinguistic model. Since some documents can't be analyzed in a sophisticated way with existing text analysis methods, I had to come up with mine.
